Joel A. Porter, M.D.
Joel A. Porter, MD, FACS, FASCRS received his medical education at The Ohio State University College of Medicine in 1981. He completed a residency in General Surgery at Akron City Hospital and a fellowship in Colon & Rectal Surgery at the University of Medicine & Dentistry in New Jersey. Dr. Porter is certified by the American Board of Surgery and the American Board of Colon & Rectal Surgery. Dr. Porter is currently a Clinical Professor of Surgery at the Northeastern Ohio Medical University (NEOMED). He is a member of Summa Physicians Inc (SPI) and was appointed the Residency Director for the General Surgery training program in the Department of Surgery at Summa in 2010. He has been elected by his peers for inclusion in Best Doctors in America® for 1998-2000, 2003-2010 and 2013 – 2014.
Originally from Cincinnati, Ohio, Dr. Porter moved to Akron for the weather and to be closer to the Browns. Dr. Porter is the author of numerous articles and is active in teaching in the Department of Surgery at Summa. His interests include complex abdominal surgery and colonoscopy. An avid reader and scuba diver, he especially enjoys watching the Ohio State football team.
